YESTERDAY'S MATCH.

KOWLOON », HÜ.S.“ HAWKINS."

ANOTHER CENTURY AT KOWLOON,

The epidemic of finished matches con tianos. Four First Division and thres Second Division games brought to a COEL- clusion last Saturday! Ona is tempted

In the regular mid-week match at Kow- to paraphrase Tom Emmett's famous roloon yesterday, Lieut. Col. Cantrell dis- mark and to enquire if it is catchingtinguished himself by scoring 108 for the As a matter of fact, however, it so hap. Hah against Kowloon. Last werk,

Capt Morris scored a century. pens that again in several cases teams Over three hundred and fifty rubs were of thisproportionate strength have been scored in the short time of 3 hours. The up against each other, and the tug of match ended in a draw. war will come later when the tracks Scores - clash. (I apologize to the gentleman who does the boxing for stealing his pet ward.)

An Important Match.

It is, of course, when a match between two strong sides is brought to a conclu- sion that the League table is most affect ed, and when the Navy forced a win over the I.R.C. at Sookinpoo they gain- ed three very valuable points. I doubt if the Indians have sufficient match-win- ning powers finish at the head of the table now. Their batting broke down badly against the Navy Bowling, which was excellent. Col. Cantrell has found his length again, and Gardner seems a useful acquisition. The Navy side, how ever, are not so convincing' as they were Imat year and I fancy their bowling is on the weak side, if Col Cantrell does not come off.' For the Indians A. H. Kamail took 4 for thirty, but apparently A. el Arcalli, who bowled so well the week before, did not go on until late and then only bowled two overs I did not witness the match and I have not dis covered why. Apparently too the Indians were without the Fabian member of the Ismail's-I forget his initial unless it is S. His stendy defence would have been of much value to the side.

There was a procession on the part of the visitors in the C.S.0.0... R.E. and S. match. Ling and Sayer bowled un- commonly well, but there was no excuse for the procession save nerves. The C.S.C.C. did not apparently take their batting too seriously but this does not detract from the good performance of Goodyer who turns the ball from the of a good deal It struck me, both figuratively and actually, by the way, that he was bowling a shade slower this year, and was thereby gaining a great deal in

accuracy.

[Doubtless, Lieut. Col. Cantrell, in re-i The Borderers were rather too much cognition of his fine score, will be award- for the Chinese and to Lieut. Dobbie again had a field-day with the ball, and looks like developing into the best and most consistent bowler here. Had Craigengower been able to hang on another five minutes: they would, I am told, have been able to rob Kow!hon of the winning points, richly as the latter deserved them for their fine butting Goodwin, seems a bit off form at present and Lyal was not is dangerous as usual, | Rosa, whom I have not yet seen, seems to have bowled very well--to take 5 for

Second Division Matches.

Lacey proved far too good for the Civil Service batsmen on the Police ground, and with the aid of "Alexander, who was trife erratic, rattled the C.S. out for 47. The Police won easily. They have suddenly produced a match r. Tamar that everyone had overlooked and head the Division. If they keep going in this way they will want some catching, but I fear they depend, very much on one bowler or two.

Tamor put up quite a good score against the Recreio but the latter rose firmly to the occasion and got the gross of runs needed for the loss of four wickets only. They seem undoubtedly a side to be reckoned with...

The Navy Second again disappointed and I fancy that their strength was formerly over-estimated a good deal. Their batting seems patchy and their bowling weak.

Subject to correction. I understand that on Friday last Tamar were beaten by University II, though not by a large margin; while on December 8th the Navy Second lost to RAO.C.. by thirty-six runs in low-scoring match played an the I.R.C.aground at Sookanpoo. The | Navy were on the weak side.

Chances for the Shigid.

It is, of course, far too early to speculate about the actual winner of the First Division, but I incline to think that only the H.K.C.C., Borderers, K.C.C, RN. and C.S.C.C. stand much chance. If either of the first mentioned teams get beaten again it will well-nigh extinguish their chance. As for the Second Division, "it would be, a bold man who

tried to precast are to say that Police bave a chance, while L.R.C. seem to have 4 points out of a possible siz.

-Warders' Mess Tournament,

In the semi-final game of 250 up, Warder Harris, of Laichikok. Prison, on Wednesday night qualified, by the small margin of one point, for the final in the Warders' Mess Tournament, defeating Warder Gooding.

The game was exciting, and Warder Gooding failed as much through bad luck as by the skill of his opponent,

Gooding made the highest break (26) and other breaks of double-figures were reached by both players

Gooding owed 8s and Harris 10, and from the start both men played well

The story is quite a good one. It depicts" scenes of war, very well pot trayed, but nevertheless somewhat com monplace. The scene changes to the grandeur of Africa's mountains, and ends amidst London's slumland. There is tragedy and humour, and the donous- ment is particularly, clever and unexpect. ed. Sentimental scenes are very prevalent but people like them, and one is glad that all is well at the end.

It is a good picture. An added attrac tion in Our Gang" at their funniest.
