ASSOCIATION AND AMATEUR STATUS.

(THRODON REUTER'S AGENCY.)]

LONDON, December 13th. After a long discussion on the question of the tightening up of the amateur status. the annual meeting of the Lawn Tennis Association did not adopt any resalu tions, but recommended the International Federation that an amateur be prohibited from teaching, writing, posing for films, broadcasting, lecturing for payment or advertising his name in any book or article, of which he is not the actual author.

Lord Desborough has resigned the Presidency and Lord D'Abernon has succeeded.

YESTERDAY'S WEATHER

CHANGE.

MOIST AND WARM.

Following the cold snap, during which pull-overs, wool waistcoats, and even overcoats were brought into requisi tion, there was a sudden change yester- day. Following on the humidity of Mon day, the temperature went up ever fur- ther yesterday, and at noon was as high as 75 degrees, with humidity at 95, Canton at p.m. on Monday there was a temperature reading of 80.

At

The cause of the heat has been the formation of a depression over the Yang taze Valley, this interrupting the cold monsoon. There has been scarcely any breeze-a few warm puffs from the east only.

The temperature at 1 p.m. yesterday was 74. Generally the temperature exceeds this in December. In 1891 a December temperature of 81.9 was re- corded, and the temperature has gone above 77 degrees on several occasion.

At four o'clock yesterday morning the humidity was 99 per cent. which is very unusual for the time of the year.

Weather Report.

The weather report, forecast and re- marks, issued by the Royal Observatory. at 5.30 last evening read:-

The Yangtze Valley depression is mov- ing eastward. Light variable winds and fog may be expected along the coast.

Local forecast:-East or variable winds, light, generally cloudy, drizzle or mist.

"THE SNOB."

A SPLENDID PICTURE AT THE

"QUEEN'S...

33

"The Snob, a Metro-Goldwyn picture which opened at the Queen's Theatre yesterday, is one of the most interesting films that has been screened at this theatre.

|

It does not perhaps rank in "super". or spectacular class of picture, but never theless it is extremely attractive and well produced. The story does not need re- peating, the title speaks for itself. All that need be said is that the picture haa much human-interest and is true to life,

Further, the pictare teaches a good moral lesson and emphasises the trite saying that Pride goeth before a fall"

As the "Enob," John Gilbert portrays to perfection the character of the am- bitious and conceited young professor, anxious to advance himself by creating An impression on Moneyed Society. Also in the picture is Norma Shearer, the "Nobody" be marries, but in reality an heiress to millions, which her husband realises top late. Conrad Nigel, Phyllis Haver and Hedda. Hopper, and many, other fine movie actors and actresses are also included in the cast.

"In addition to the "' Saob," which will be shown again "to-day, there is Dick Norton and his merry New Globo Trothers, who precede the picture per formance in a capital pot pourri pro- gramme.

From to-morrow Saturday, Gloria Swanson is appearing in "The Humming Bird"
