MANY HOUSES FINANCED BY CHINESE

During the past year, it is a well- known to the Chinese general public, that a large number of Chinese have taken up roulette gambling, says the Shanghai Mercury. Many houses financed by Chinese and apparently run by foreig ners, who have the houses registered in their name, have been opened. These houses are unusual in a way and attract people

Referring to a previous case, his Lord- ship, said that the plaintiffs must prove that in copying their trade mark, the defendants got their milk called by an expression, menning soldier, and so pass ed off their goods as the plaintiffs'." He thought as a fact the evidence did not prove that.

The tins were quite dissimilar.- He found as a fact that the defendants' milk.was known as Cheng Pia or Kim Lang. in the market, while the plaintiffs was known as Pia Thaw or Peng Thaw. Judgment was given for the defendants, with costs.

QUEEN'S COLLEGE NEW SITE.

MORRISON HILL NOW DOWN TO A LEVEL.

After much rock-drilling, shovelling and blasting, Morrison Hill is now being cut down to a level suitable for the provision of a site on which it is proposed to build the New Queen's College.

When the Praya reclamation scheme was started, much optimism prevailed and hopes were expressed that this gigantic task of removing the hill would be completed well within the period of years allowed to the contractor. An unexpected obstacle was encountered in the solid mass of rock of which, Morrison Hill is largely composed."
