YESTERDAY'S STATEMENTS.

Cargo for Hong Kong have again fallen considerably during the 24 hours ended at 9 am, yesterday. Out of 13 arrivals, only 7 steamers carried cargo for Hong Kong. The freights brought into the Colony amounted to 2,105 tons with 1,644 tons on British vessals, of which, the St. Albana contributed 433

In connection with the overhaul and rest of the Empress liners at Hong Kong, the first of which, the Empress of Asia, has already gone into dock, it is understood that besides having their bulls painted while, their colour in pre- war days every cabin will be itted out with hot and cold running water. The overhaul of the Empress of Asia will occupy the best part of a menth, and she is scheduled to sail for Vancouver on January 6th, 1997. The Empress of Canada, due here on December 23rd, and arriving back from Manila on the 30th of this month, will be the next vessel to go to Dock, as announced yesterday, and A little later she will be followed by the Empress of Russia.

The harbour should present a very full appearance to-day, for in addition to the usual run of river traffe, and the arrival of China Coast, steamers, there will be several large ships at the Kowloon Wharves. These will include the Cunard round-the-world tourist liner 8.3. Carin thin, which, as stated elsewhere, arrived in port yesterday with over 300 globe trotters on board; the Dollar liner as President Weon, arriving with passen- gers, freight, and U.S.A, Honolulu, Japan and Shanghai and Home and Europe mail vid Siberia; and the .s. President McKinley (Admiral Oriental Line) which is also due from the North with freight, passengers, and mails from U.S.A., Canada, Japan and Shanghai. To-morrow morning there is due the P. & O. s.3. Malwa from Home with the inward mail, and a large number of passengers for Hong Kong and Shang- hai; while the sa. Mecedonia, of the same Temperature line also arrives from the North with

Humidity Japan and Shanghai mail and takes the Wind Direction... outward mail for Home on Saturday. The Maluca sails for Shanghai this after-wather. noon at four o'clock, and takes the Home Rain mail vid Siberia,
