The trial was opened at the Essex Assizes at Chelmsford early in November of Harriet Amelia Crouch, 50, who was charged with the murder of her husband by shooting him at Summerhouse Farm, Jay Wick, near Clacton, on August 20th
Mr. J. D. Cassels, K.C., M.P., prose cuting, said that Mrs Crouch married in November, 1920. She was the widow of a Spaniard and owned a fancy goods business. Her husband was a traveller. In September, 1923, Mr. and Mrs. Crouch took the Summerhouse farm and employed a stockman's daughter, named Dorothy Margaret Smith, as a servant in the house. There was no doubt Mrs. Crouch entertained a feeling of jealously with regard to Miss Smith, and believed there was a guilty relationship between her husband and Miss Smith."
There were beautiful gifts for the bride from the City Fathers, and King George and Queen Mary shewed their kindly in- terest by inviting the Lord Mayor and

Mr. Davidson obtained his first ex perience of affairs as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Mr. Boaur Law when he was Prime Minister. He is still quite a young man, being only 37, and he will need all his youth and energy in the combination of tasks which he has undertaken. He is highly popular with all parties. His wife is a daughter of Sir Willoughby Dickinson, who was for long time chairman of the London Liberal Federation
Famous London Magistrate.
Great regret is expressed at the death of Mr. H. T. Mr. Waddy was highly respect ed by his brother Magistrates in London. -ret only for his personal qualities of good humour and tactfulness, but he cause, as Sir Charles Biron, the senior Metropolitan Magistrate, remarked at Bow "Street & few dayı"ago, “be had a very wide and comprehensive know- ledge of the law, an admirable humanity, and an all-porvading annity, which conde Aim in most ways an ideal member of our body."
The Tower Bridge Court is in the centre of one of the worst areas in London, and it was marvellous to see Mr. Waddy disposing of the scores of cases that came before him daily from the slums. He always kept in view the ideal that the Police Court Magistrate is fre quently, the poor man's lawyer as well as his judge. Many stories are told to illustrate his kindness of heart, and his almost uncanny knack of getting at the facts of a ease with a few well-directed questions.
