The 43rd annual al fresco fête in aid of the funds of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was held ander ideal weather conditions yesterday. There was a large gathering in the compound of the Roman Catholic Cathedral, Caine Road, from a o'clock; in the afternoon, till and in thei evening the crowd increased to such a proportion that maneuvring from stall to stall became quite a difficult job.
The gateway to the Cathedral was gaily dick with flags and all along the route were festoons of lights. Brisk business was done at every stall; vendors sad customers being most esthusiatic.
The bazaar was held under the distinis Kelly, George Newland and Miss Roulette-Messrs. James Doyle, Den- guished patronage of H.E. the Governor Mande Dillon and Lady Clementi..
The Society is well-known and rightly honoured for its philantrophic work amongst the poor of Hong Kong, and its annual appeal for funds is in aid of the poor of the Colony during the coming year. All deserving cases, irrespective of nationality or creed, are willingly helped, The stalls were very well decorated, and the articles offered as prizes or for sale were neatly arranged. Everywhere thing useful and something attractive to one encountered young ladies with some-
tempt one to part with a few ten-cent
bits.
The souvenir stall, the 10-cent stall, the $3 stall, the doll stall, and the Xmas tree attracted a large number of Little ones. Several thousands of toys and games were displayed in these stalls..
The French stall was abundantly stock ed with embroidery and beautiful' gar- ments for children.
"Feeding Hungry Fa and Ma'' stall did a roaring business among the children. In this stall, one may have a shy at Pa's
or Ma's mouth, and is one is lucky to feed Pa or Ma with a ball, one gets a prize for doing one's filial duty.
