Mr. Jesse Arnold Levinson asked for ap injunction to restrain Mr. Shaw from stating to film producers, exhibitors, and other persons interested in the pro-[** dustion or exhibition of films in America or elsewhere, that any film entitled The Chocolate Soldier," or based on the play known as "Der Tapfere. Soldat,' will infringe his copyright, or from in- terfering with the production of such a dlm by Mr.. Levinson or his licensees.
Mr. MacGillevray (for Mr. Levinson) said that the motion was for an injune tion to restrain Mr. "Shaw from slander- ing Mr. Levinson's title to certain cinematograph rights. He did not think he could ask the judge to try the matter on affidavit evidence, and he therefore asked for facilities for a speedy trial of the action with witnesses. *

Whether Japan remains "second-rate once more" or not among the comity of nations, as New York proclaims, giving a summary of the views of leading diplo- mats on the changed outlook in the Pacific Ocean, it seems almost certain that Nippon is destined to have no pesce at home, at least as far as her ever. increasing population is concerned.
Increase of 875,385,
The natural increase of the Japanese population in the year 1023 has just been officially announced. It is no fewer than
875,386 an increase" of more than 125,000
over the average increase of 750,000 per year.
The extraordinary increase in Japan's population for the year 1995 is due to the fact that there were a greater number of births and a considerable decrease of deaths.
The actual number of births registered in Japan alone amounted during last year to 2,080,891, comprising 1,060,927 boys and 1,025,24 girls, and showing the ratio of increase of 34.99 per 1,000.
It is a matter of great interest to note the actual details of how such an unpre- cedented increase in Nippon's population came about.

Two brothers who were engaged in a fight, in the course of which, one took
out a knife and made an attempt to stab the other, was the subject of a case before Mr. B. E. Lindsell, at the Central Magistracy yesterday morning.
Defendant picaded that what occurred
was an accident. He happened to have a knife in his hand when his younger brother pushed him.
The youngest brother stated that he saw his two brothers having a dispute, which developed into a fight. The eldest bro ther, who was the defendant in the case, struck the first blow.
His Worship said he did not believe it was all an accident, but in view of the fact that they were brothers, he would not impose any punishment. The defendant would have to sign a personal. bond to keep the peace for six months.
