SCOTLAND FOR EVER."
GRAND MUSTER AT ST. ANDREW'S BALL.
SPLENDID GATHERING OF THE CLANS
FOR AULD LANG SYNE,
THE HONGKONG
Yesterday was Sz."Andrew's Day, and in the evening hundreds of Scots and their friends mustered at the City Hall for the Annual Ball." Geniality, conviviality and revelry reigned supremo with a lightheart- edness and merriness always conspicuous and all-pervading when the Scottish Patron Saint is being honoured.
At noon a wreath was laid at the Cenotaph by Mr. R. M. Dyer (the Chieftain) who was accompanied by several other members of St. An- drew's Society.
On such occasions the City Hall has always been beautifully decorat- ed, but dover perhaps, with more artistry and such splendour as it was Jesterday. There were evergreens, flags and flowers in profusion and all along the walls were bung the shields of Scotland's clans.
This year an added attraction was the ceremonial carried through on the arrival of HE the Governor.
The Scottish costume of many of the men, and tartan touches in the dresses of many of the ladies gave a fine Scottish and picturesque effect to the" gathering. All present wore sprigs of heather,,
There were over 1,350 persons present.
At the entrance to the City Hall anļ archway twined with ever-greens and lit "with vari-coloured fairy lamps was in- stalled.
་་
The City Hall library had been meto- morphosed into Auchtermuchty," and spaces between the book shoives were used for card-parties.

The balustrades of the stairway were adorned with evergreens and miniature palms, and at the head of the stairway was a large mirror and an illuminated thistle. This was draped with the Flag of Scotland. On the adjacent walls, their borders twined with evergreens, were several clan shields. The general tone of the decoratiers was blue and white.
