This was a sequel to the case. tried about a fortnight ago when the owner of the motor boat was also fined $25 for allowing his vessel to leave port without a certicated caxswain on board. His Worship remarked at the time that it was dangerous enough even with certificated Chinese navigators on board, but to be under way without one was worre.

For, causing obstruction in the South- ern fairway, & junk master was fined 810 or ten days' hard labour.

For leaving port during prohibited hours without a permit from the Harbour Office, two junk masters were fined $25 each, or 8 weeks' hard labour. The Magistrate said that offences of this kind were getting too numerous, had a stop must be put to them.

The owner of a waterboat was fined 85 or five days' hard labour for being on the wrong side of the fairway.

IMPRESSIVE AND GRIPPING. Yesterday reference was made to the opening at the Queen's Theatre of The Sea Beast. Now, having seen the film at its first screening in Hong Kong yes" terday, we can only emphasise that what was previously written regarding the pro- duction is more than justified

John Barrymore, the star in the pic- ture, which is based on the story of the hunt of more than 80 years ago of " Moby. Dick," the famous and terrible monster whale which in those days roamed the Pacific, is, of course, the central figure. It is not necessary to touch en the story! depicted by the film, except to say that. it is an excellent ons of love, hate, revenge and adventure. It is the wonder- ful acting of John Barrymore which at- tracts the attention, grips it and holds it until the final scene has been displayed It is more than impressive, and so much so that one even forgets the story in the sheer enjoyment of watching Barry- more's wonderful, portrayal of the char acter he represents. This actor, with all his laurels from Beau Brummel" and "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," surpasses himself in The Sea Beast" He more than acts; he lives the part and forgets be is acting

The whole picture is wonderfully realis tic and vivid, the scenery is very fine, and the spirit of the days which the film depicts has been faithfully recaptured.

There should be crowded houses at the "Queen's" today and tomorrow, for the production is one which should cer tainly be seen, and this may be the last opportunity of seeing it in Hong Kong
