HONG KONG SHIPPING.
YESTERDAY'S STATEMENTS.
During the 24 hours ended at 9 am. yesterday, freight returns for Hong Kong showed only 3,699 tons of general merchandise entered into the Colony, which WDE still below the average. British vessels carried 2,703 tons, and the beat return was registered by the New Mathilde, a British steamer, which con- tributed 1,100 ton
card for ports beyond slightly in creased over the previous day's returna There was a total tonnage of 16,107 tons manifested on steamers passing through Hong Kong, out of which 3,200 tons were on British steamers. The best returna were 6,908 tons on the Bingo Mars from Calcutta and Singapore; 3,391 tons en
s, Shinnoh Maru, from Yokohama and Moji, and the P. & O. steamer Devanha also had 3,100 tons.
During the period under review there were 15 arrivals and 13 departures. Their nationalities were: British, a arrivals and 5 departures; Japanese, 2 arrivals and 3 departures; Norwegina,
arrivals; Chinese, 2 arrivals and 2 departures; Dutch, 2 arrivals and 1 de parture; French, I arrival and 1 depar- ture; German, 1 departure; American, 1 arrival.
Vessels ́in port numbered 70. They were: British, 14; American, 2; Nor wegian, 4: German.; Panama, 1: Japanese, 8; Chinese, 19; Dutch, 5 and Portuguese,
