There arrived in the Colony yesterday, by the Dollar Liner 15 President Van Buren, a potable, educationist- Dr. John Alison, M.A.. LL.D., F.R.S.E., who until recently and for many years was headmaster of the famous George Watson's College, of Edinburgh, Scotland.
Dr. Alison, having retired from active scholastic duties, is now engaged in a world tour of Watsonian Clubs. He was due to arrive in Hong Kong on Sunday on the s.a."Siberia Marti, bat was detain- ed nt Shanghai, his last calling place.
Dr. Alison is accompanied by on his tour by a friend and former student at George Watson's College, Mr. Ryrie Orr, proprietor of the Greenock Telegraph.
Dr. Alison, who was born at Kirkaldy, File, on February 28th, 1861, is n son of the late Mr. Peter Alison, schoolmaster of Gallatown. He was educated at Edin- teacher, Queen's Scholar and Teacher in burgh University, later "became a pupil Moray House Training College and Mathematical Master at the Edinburgh, Academy. He later taught in George Watson's College, of which he became
Headmaster in 1904, and was also Prin- cipal of Glasgow U.FC. Training Col- lege for many years. He married in 1888 a daughter of Mr. S. . Orr, of Edin- burgh, and has three daughters. He is a recognised aathority on mathematics, work en- and is the joint author of titled "Arithmetic for Schools and Colleges." Golf is his favourite sport.
