ANOTHER FINE INNINGS "BY BARRETT.
The hospitality of the Kowloon Cricket Club is proverbial, and on Saturday it was extended in most lavish form to a good many visitors. The Hong Kong Interport side wero invited and a good many other cricket enthusiasts-(among them your poor scribe) and it was a large and cheerful gathering, that sat down to a bountiful repast under the presidency of Mr. B. E. Lindsell who was faced by Mr. Abrahams, the Vice- President of the Club, at the ether ond of the board. Doubtless intended as a of their delicate compliment to guests, the large plates of lettuce-culled from the noted Club Garden-were set forth and were in much demand. Mr. Robinson is to be congratulated on the results of his labours in the growing of vegetables. I shall now know where to look in for a bite of food if hungry.

The cricket was very enjoyable, and while no one actually made an enormous score, practically all of the home men did "well. The match was played 12 a side, eleven only to field. The most specta- eular feature of the innings. waa Good- win's hard hit 2, and it is rumoured Isaacs is thinking of taking out an in- junction in respect of his batting style- (mutatis mutandia). There is always the same cheerful uncertainty as to whether the ball is going to be hit, and it hit, as to its final destination.
In the Shanghai innings it was again shown how much they depend as a batting side on Barrett. But for him they would have very possibly lost the game. It is true he was out about the eighties, caught off his wrist-but that and a very hard chance indeed to Ramsey at mid- off were the only blemishes on a Ene forcing innings. "Goodwin bowled well, though he did not get a wicket the should have had Donald Leach in the first over) and Lyall was altogether more convinc ing than he is on the Club ground. He. still, however, has the failing of curling up a bit if hit for four, and drop- ping them short. Lightfoot had success but Captain Morris's slows got a IWELS couple of wickets, really three. rather surprised that E. F. Fincher was not given a chance with the ball.

Just one word on the ground. I think it is the prettiest here, and certainly the jolliest from which to watch a "cricket The railed ground at the Yau match. mati end gives a splendid point of vantage, and it is a thousand pitics that uncertainty of tenure prevent the Club- from building their new Pavilion there (or indeed anywhere).
The home side won the toss and open- ed on a good wicket. Lyal and Fincher gave them a good start, though the latter never seemed conident and edged one finally to Barrett at slip off Leach. Lyal was well taken by Dr. Morris.in the deep beld, but Lawrence played free and attractive cricket until he was well held by Goldman at deep mid-wicket for 27 in which he hit four fours. Mitchell made a bad stroke and was caught by O'Hara "at mid-off, and Morris was run out. He was rather unlucky as it was close and the ball actually hit the wicket from the throw in. With 7 down for 123 things did not look too rosy, but Fincher (E. F.) profiting by being dropped twice in his first over stopped in with Duncan until tima, and again after until the score was 176. He played nice cricket for his 32, but was low. Duncan played some nice shots, and showed much re- straint in dealing with Barrett's slowa. He waited and drove them, along the ground. He did not long survive Fin- cher, but Goodwin treated the spectators to some hard hitting, awiping Leach for aix into Cox's road and then taking 3 fours off his next over. At 24 for 9 wickets Lyal declared.

WEEK-END YACHTING,
THE FOURTH CHAMPIONSHİP
RACE.
YESTERDAY'S EVENT BETWEEN NAVY, AND CLUB There was a full yachting programme on Saturday and yesterday. On the first named day the fourth championship race was decided, and yesterday was Naval Day, there being three races during the afternoon for the different class boats, between the Yacht Club and the Navy, In connection with Naval Days this season, there will be three races in all. The points being awarded for each, flag will be awarded, at the conclusion of the third race of the series to the side which has obtained the most points, and not as last year banded over on the de- cision of one race. A
Today there will be the second cham- pionship race for the ladies. The first race of the series, which was postponed last week on account of bad weather, will be sailed later on in the season.
Saturday's Race. Twenty-two boats turned out in the three racing classes of the Royal Hong- kong Yacht Club's fourth championship race on Saturday afternoon. The wen ther was good, and the wind was blowing east, force 1, which was even lighter than that of last week. The course taken was to Quarry Bay mark, Kowloon Rock, Channel Hocks, and the Club line, cover.
HANDICAP CLASS.
China Light and Fower Co. v. Recreio. The Portuguese played another friend-ing & distance of 8.33 miles.
The results and points to date are as ly match on Saturday when they easily defeated a team from the China Light under:-
They dismissed their and Power Co. opponents, who batted first, for 35 runa and then scored 135 for wickets. H. M. Xavier carried his bat for 60 runs, E. 4 Alves scored 25, B. Alves and J. Figuerido 10. A B. Clemo with 11 was the only man to reach double figures for the Electric Company. In the bowling H. Alves took 8 wickets for 21 and J The Recreio play Figuerido 4 for 18. their first League match on Saturday against the Police.

The concluding performance of the Hong Kong Dramatic Club's successful week at the Theatre Royal took place on Saturday night. There was a fairly fulf who thoroughly house, and the audicace included the interport cricketers, enjoyed the Dramatic Medley sented.

BALHATCHET SCORES FIRST CENTURY.
The League matches on Saturday anw the unexpected defeats of the Hong Kong Cricket Club, Royal Engineers and Signals, and the Royal Artillery in the arat division.

The remainder of the innings was dull, as the batsmen obviously were troubled by the light find catch by Mitchell in the deep being the only outstanding festure. At 180 (6.05 p.m.) the stumps were pulled up.
It must be admitted that the Shanghai team were obviously tired after their. long week's cricket and their bowling had largely lost ite ating. Their fielding a good though Kowloon played an. commonly well, and it is a great pity Brace could not turn out.

Training.
There was a fair crowd round the rails at Happy Valley on Saturday morning including Mrs Austin, Mr. and Mrs B. J. Paterson, Mesara: F. C. Hall and P.. Tester. Mr. Ho Kom Tong came down to see his grin, named Marble Hall, measured. Mr. Ha Kom Tong bas aaveral other ponies coming down from the North, I understand. His stable will be a welcome addition to local racing and I am sure he will find the Club officials very helpful and only too willing to place at his disposal the benefit of their experience. Mrs. Paterson also had a griffin named "Wowser" measured. The grass course was opened and the following are a few of the times taken :

Handicaps.
Eitherto the Handicaps have been so very good that I am at a loss to under- stand why they have suddenly become equally bad. I have already drawn at weight in "B" Class. September on tention to Barley Grass absurdly light the other hand is much too severely dealt with and John Smith's promotion to "A" Cass seems unwarranted. The weights, moreover, in the one mile handicap are ridiculous as no one can ride at anything like 118 lbs, and it is doubtful it there
Jockey here who can go out at under 141 lbs. There are nine ponies under this latter weight and it means they get no advantage from the difference in their In Shanghai, I believe the weights. handicaps are worked up from 145 lbs. Verb sap.
Attaboy (late Fantastic Dahlia) at 175 lbs. is rather a joke but I have no doubt owners will sort out their ponies into suitable racer and help to mitigate the Handicapper's mistakes:

Fifteen boats
The Naval ships in the harbour have organised a Championship race of service boats during the season started but due to the very light wind only two Haisbed, these being:-Hermes Galley (Engr-Comdr. Villar) 1st, and Despatch Galley (Capt. La Mottee) 2nd. The races will take place once a week.
A DRIFTING RACE. YACHT CLUB DEFEATS NAVY. The first of the series of races between the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and the Royal Navy was sailed yesterday and resulted in an easy win for the Club by 33 points to 28. The Navy lost in all three classes.
The weather was not favourable for aniling, there being scartely any wind, and the race was merely a drifting
match.

AMBULANCE AQUATIC SPORTS. INDIAN DIVISION WINS SHIELD.
The tenth annual swimming sports of the St. John's Ambulance Brigade, which were postponed from October, were held yesterday morning at the gymnasium of King's College, Bonham Head. Among those present were Messrs. Ho Kom Tong, the Father" of the Brigade, E. Ralphs, J. Ralston, A. Morris, A el Arculli, F. K. Hewett and A. H. Rum jahn (officers of the Brigade).
the Four divisions competed for
Kowloon, Brigade's Tropby, Indian, Y.M.C.A. and King's College, and the. first-named division succeeded in wrest- ing the much coveted honour from Kow- loon, who won' it last year.

The team race was won by the Indian Division, with Kowloon a close second.
In the Life Saving event, Kowloon easy winner. The first man wag Yeon Yuen Wa, and Cheung Sik Pui, of the King's College Division, took second honour. The third man was F. Y. Sheung.
In the 100 yards event Minu, "of the Indian Division, came in first, followed by Y. Y.. Wa (Kowloon) and O. Kitchell (Indian) took third place.
Leong Shiu Sang won the 50 yards handicap with 5 seconds start, and Cheung Sik Pui won the 100 yards handi. cap with 5 seconds start.
The Sir Paul Chater Shield was also won by the Indian Division.
