Freight returns for the 84 hours coded at 9 am, on Saturday showed there were 9,790 tons of general cargo:imported into the Colony. Of this amount, the 18, Protestant, a British steamer from Tacoma and Japan, brought 3.406 toon, the next largest return was 9,100 tons The Ellerman liner City of Corintà carried by the 63 Telemachus, from and the Blue Funnel liner datilochus Saigon. SHIPPING NOTES-
notice issued by the Customs A Authorities at Shanghai states that an anchor, with 70 fathoms of chain attached to it, has been recovered from the river. outside Woosung, at a position from which Quarantine Buoya bear N. 70 W. (magnetic); and is now lying on the Customs property at Woosung, where it may be inspected. The anchor is a stock- less patent anchor, weighing about two tons. The chain is 14 stud link. If not elaimed and salvage paid, by the end of November, the anchor and chain' become the property of the salvors.
The following Harbour Office circular has been issued to shipping firms under 8th. Small wooden floats date Novembly will be released by the
marked Sanitary Department daily for one month, as from November 15th, to ascer: tain whether rubbish dumped at sen has A tendency to return to barbour. Between September 15th and October 15th there were 100 cases of small-por in the Easington rural district of Durham, 96 of them being in the colliery village of Horden. The medical officer atatea that the cases are mostly of a mild type, but that the disease is becoming more malignant.
