KOWLOON CHINESE

ATHLETIC.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE ** KONGKONG DAILY PRESS."']

SIE-Everybody, including myself, who paid a visit to Kowloon to watch the football game between the two senior `teams of the above clubs last Saturday was surprised at the decision given by the referee in the second half in ruling player scored what should have been a Mr. Ip Kau Ko "offside" when that

legitimate goal.

It happened that the Chinese outside right having received a pass from one of his fellow players raced away with the bail and centred it. The ball dropped on the outside of the cross-bar and gave a rebound into the field of play, and at this Juncture Mr. Ip rushed up and breasted the ball into the net. Everybody thought that that was a goal, but to bis surprise the referee blew his whistle and his deci sion was offside! But was Mr. ip uffside " under such circumstances? This is a question I wish to ask your readers and especially these interested spectators at that match.

As far as the Laws of the Game are concerned, that ruling by the referee was- hopelessley wrong and if I might say, ridiculous. The law is very simple a player can always put himselt onïide and

behind the ball. Mr. ip was absolutely RESULTS OF SATURDAY'S LEAGUE

behind the ball when he put the bail inade the goal. For what specific rea- sens the rezerce put that player off- side" only the referee himself can tell. Li the referee intended to put that player unade he could have done so before the ball was sent inside the net, but be could not reasonably do that after that legitimate goal was scored.

There may have been some new "off- sile help the game considerably if the football rules I do not know, but it would

authorities or some other gentlemen will Sire a clear definition of that particular

rule.

After all I think players should play the game as it should be played, and the referees should at the same time referee the game

as it should be refereed. Yours, etc.,
