J. P. ROBINSON...
The side is the one which I suggested would be chosen on Monday last. It was not, however, definitely settled until last night, and Lightfoot's excellent bowling yesterday may have gone very close to bringing off a surprise. Well, however, as he bowled it must be remembered that he was pa after five oc'clock, when the
Mr. C. S. Ransom, the President of the Association, stated that, as he was leaving the Colony for Manila next month he was compelled to resign the presidency.
His resignation was accopted with į regret, and Mr. Logan, who is "vice- president, was appointed to fill his place, antil the annual meeting next April.
On the proposition of Mr. Ildefonso, seconded by Mr. R. C. Wilson, it was. resolved to donate $3 to the Poppy Day Fund.
Mr. Rauso leaves for Manila on De- cember 7th.

foot becomes twelfth man, but I expect
to see him play for the Colony before bis period duty here is over. Mitchell Eas had bad luck. He has for years been un the verge of getting in without ever quite making it, and his continued keen
interest in the game is an example to Bl young cricketers. Many men would have been soured by just missing salec- tion but he is as keen as ever and has done much for cricket generally here, especially for the Volunteer side of which he may well claim to be the father. And a fairly lusty infant too!
To-morrow I hope to give a few notes on the Shanghai side. To-day & detailed list of our eleven may be of interest to those of my readers who have not had the opportunity of fallowing the cricket as closely as they would have liked.
A. C. I. BoWEER:-A fire fast bowler, on his day well-nigh unplayable. Turns them from the off a bit, can come with his arm, and has the knack of keeping
an occasional ball extraordinarily low.
A hard-hitting unorthodox bat who is
far more likely to make runs if the side
is doing badly than if it is doing well.
A magnificent field anywhere particular.

Their names are placed in the pavilions both in Shang- bai and Hongzong. The same qualities are essential both for a good cricketer and ʼn good soldier: that is why erickét means what it does to us.
