JEECSALEM, September 20th. The ruins of the first settlement of the Jews in Palestine, alter the parting of Abraham and Lot, have been discovered near Nablus (the Schechem of the Old Testament), thirty miles borth of Jera salem, by an international archaeological expedition headed by Professor Freest Sellin, of Berlin University.

The excavations revealed a temple of Baal, a palace, and an acropolis, alt the work of the early Jewish settlers.

Professor Sellin declares that -the rite of the ruins is the place where Abraham built the altar for the sacrifice of Isaac, where Jacob buried his idole, and where according to tradition, Joseph was buried by his family, after his triumphs in Egypt. The place is mentioned in cure form tablete found at Tell Amarna, in Egypt.
