HONGKONG YACHT CLUB.

ANNUAL REPORT AND ACCOUNTS,

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR.

We have received from the Royal Hongkong Yacht Club the annual report and statement of accounts, which will be submitted to the annual general meeting of members next Friday at the Club House

`C.C.C. DANCES.

THE-PROGRAMME FOR THIN 1016-87

SEASON

The following dance programme for the 1999-97 season has been arranged fa connection with the Craigengewer Cricket Club:-

Saturday, October 23rd: Saturday, November eth; Saturday, November 20th; Saturday, December 4th; and Saturday, December 18th; all commencing at 9.15

on Boxing Day

The report shows, that the membership P .."The usual dance of the Club has increased. On the afonday, December 7th) will begin at counts side a loss of $991.08 is reported.

Notable Mambars.

The report, inter alia, states:- In presenting the accounts to members the Committee is pleased to report a successful year. Shortly after the begin- ning of the Club year His Excellency Sir R. E. Stubba, E.C.M.G., who had been a patron of the Club for five years left the Colony. On his arrival the Hon Mr. Cecil Clementi was approached and consented to become a patron of the Club. His Excellency is part owner of the yacht Genone and the Committee hopes to es His Excellency at the helm of his yacht E.R.IL during the coming season. Prince Georgs, serving on HM.S. How- kini, was made an honorary member of the Club during the year.

Two ex-Commodores, Sir Claud Bevern and Mr. A. Denison, left the Colony during the year. It was arranged to have a complimentary dinner in hanour of Mr. Denison, but for reasons of health this had to be cancelled. Dur ing the year Captain T. Arthur resigned from the Sailing and General Committees on going Home on leave and his place was filled by the appointment of Licut Col. H. B. Gunn, D.S.O., to serve on both Committees.

The Committee record with great regret the death of Mr. D. K. Blair, a former Commodore, and of Sir Paul Chater..

Royal Navy Interest, The popularity of the Club is clearly evident from the increase in membership since the last report was submitted. Dur. ing the year 33 new members and 7 subscribers were elected to the Club as against 28 and 8 in the previous year. The large increase in subscribers is main- ly due to the keen interest taken in the -sailing and rowing activities of the Club by officers of the Royal Navy. Not the least interesting feature of the year was the splendid series of sailing and rowing eventa between the Navy and the Club. The number of Resident Members now stands as follows:-Lady Members 5, Members 193, Subscribers 51; Absent Members: Ladies & Members 142, Sub scribers 24, giving a grand total of 423

Members.

The Bar profit for the year is $890.68, an increase of $305.99 on the previous year. Ordinary subscriptions have de creased by 8110, and, as mentioned in the last report, Bowls subscriptions have been rescinded. Bathing subscriptions are fur- ther reduced this year, by $65. It has been found necessary to write off bad and doubtful debts amounting to $150.07, be- ing an increase on last year of $109,01.

Value of Club House.

It was decided by the Committee that it would be advisable to revalue the Club premises and the rowing gear in order to get a figure to be depreciated from year to year, the amount in the accounts last year having been brought by depreciation to an absurdly low mark. This was a cordingly done and the site and buildings Do stand at $70,000. Before this to valuation the reserve account of the Clab stood at $15,516.83, an increase of 8843.02 over the previous year. To this has been added surplus on revaluation of assets 847,851.88, which brings the total reserve account to $63,368.29.

5.30 p.m.

The President's Dance will be held on Friday, December 31st, at 9.15 p.m.

The Bachelors' Dance takes place on

Saturday, January 22nd, at 9.15. p.m.

Ballings.

The report of the Sailing Committee" states that the past season was one of the most successful in the last decade. A feature of the season was the spirited competition between the civilian members and the Naval subscribers. They met in three matches, and the first which decided the holding of the flag for the year was won by the Club, but in the two events which followed the Navy won.

The report goes on to give details of the races during the year, and the prize- winners. In the Ladies' races, the prizes were given by Mrs. E. W. Carpenter, the wife of the Club's Commodore.

The Committee asks all sailing mem- bers to keep their boats în commission throughout the coming season if they possibly can and particularly owners of Chinese Rig Cruisers to race their craft and so enable the Committee, to run the Cruiser Champion races in the two ulasses separately.

The thanka of the Committee in due to Mr. A. Denison, for presenting three cups for competition, one of which was, with Mr. Denison's approval, called the "Deni- ion Challenge Cup" for the Handicap
