The sale is to take place this afternoon, at the China Auction Rooms, of the steamship General Henry Knoz, now lying of Sham Shui Po. She is being sold by order of the mortgages. The vessel formerly belonged to the Army Transport Servion of the United States Army and was employed as a mine layer. Her dimensions, and capacity are as follows:-length, 150 feet; breadth, 30 feet; depth, 13 feet; gross tonnage 447 tons; nect tonnage, 301 tons. The ship is built of steal and is fitted with a com Pound engine 16 by 39 and double boller. She was registered as having a speed of

11 knots.

Yesterday morning's shipping state. ment showed an improvement in freight returns as regards porta beyond, but a decrease for Hongkong. There were more arrivals than during the previous period and this had the effect of bringing about an increase in freight, although this was only so with regard to freight for ports beyond, which leaped up with a bound. Cargo for Hongkong did not increase. On the contrary, it dropped by 11,000 tons, although the returne made were, in several instances, ecxellent. Freight Mariners are notified that the position for ports beyond increased by 29,000 tons, given for the Tatching Point light, Lam several vessels carrying particularly Tong, in "Notice to Mariners" No. heavy freights for ports other than Hong-S431 and published in the Gosette of kong. The departures during the same period came to seventeen, viz., three British for Canton, one British and one Chinese for Shanghai, one Dutch for Padang, one French for Tourane, one British for Hongay, two Japanese for Moji, two British for Amoy, one British and one Dutch for Singapore, one British for 'Sanadakan, one Chinese for Sha U Chung and one British for Otaru. There was one clearance, a British vesset for Haiphong.

At the Marine Court yesterday, before Lieut. Commander G., F. Hole, R.N.. three fishing boat masters were, fined $3 for using drags in the Harbour without permission.

Dangerous goods manifested yesterday, included 11 cases of safety fuses on the s.s. Antenor from Liverpool and Singa pore, 44 gas cylinders on the us. Linen acid and carbolic acid on the as. West from Shanghai, and 39 tons of sulphuric Nomentum from Porland (Oregon) and Мојі.

The total number of deck passengers entered for the, twenty-four hours ended at 9 am yesterday was 3,408, the highest number reached on any one day for many months part of this number the as Aum Sang (British) from Cal- cutta and Singapore, carried 1,146; the sa. Hong Peng. (British) from Rangoon and Singapore 908; the Tjikini (Dutch) frein Batavia and Amoy 338; the a. President Lineoin (American) from San Francisco and Shanghai 834; and the s.a. Hozan Maru (Japanese) from Keelung and Swatow 240.

The .. Fatehing and the ax Hop Sang departed yesterday for Canton with 40 tons and 35 tons of cargo respectively, which was in the vessels when they arriv ed from Shanghai,-and Taingtau.
