No reliable information' is yet to band regarding the speeches mado at the procession and demonstration in Canton on Sunday. It would
be interesting to have the English translations of such sprecher," bat obviously such translations, to be guaranteed, must come from official
sources.
Everything, in "connection with the parade passed off quietly and there is confidence in the foreign commercial community that the boycott has been lifted. The general opinion is that trade will gradually be resumed and slowly recover. As always, however, the Chinese merchant hangs back to see what his neighbour is going to do. There is no desperate anxiety apparently on the part of sayons to be "firat in the field."
The Central Executive Council of the Kuomintang has issued a pre- clamation announcing the withdrawal of the direct boycott of Hongkong. This proclamation refart, however, to the intensification of the anti- Imperialist" struggle
REPORTS REGARDING THE PICKETS.
The Pickets Examination Shed in Canton is in process of demolition. At Macao the pickets have been withdrawn from the barrier en land sad _also_from Chinshan and Lappa No pickets remain anywhere in this
district
Only the military now remain at Sumebun. All the pickets left on the 10th ist, the last one travelling on the 3 p.m. traia. Two trainA up and down are running za before but Chinese railway employees say that an official is coming down to see Mr. Winslow to arrange for the ranning of traits as before the strike. More people than usual went over the border at Sumchun yesterday.
There is nothing fresh to report from Mirs Bay but this district, which is under the control of General Law Kwan, a former adherent of General Chan Kwing Aling, has been practically free of pickets for months past. Enquiries made at Namtao (Deep Bay) show that there «has not yet been any resumption of trade in this neighbourhood,
Formerly there was a good "trade across Deep. Bay but the pickets- destroyed it and hope is expressed that it will now gradually revive.

We will make no comment, at this juncture, upon this second message, except one of regret that Mr. Chen finds it necessary to repudiate views which only seemed to show that the Canton Government. were sincerely desirous of establishing once again a friendly relationship with this. Colony. In referring to the interview on the date of its publication we wrote:
"In one or two sentences he (Mr. Eugene Chen) outlined the picture of which we have for years been dreaming. In a well-ordered and peaceful China, Great Britain's assistance would be willingly and very generously given in any schemes calculated to advance the development of the Country, Mr. Eugene Chen need have no misgivings on that score. Hongkong, and behind Hongkong, the British people would welcome a retura to friendly relationship and all that such relationship implies." Although the views expressed in the interview have been repudiated we can nasure Mr. Chen that this declaration standa.

NATIONWIDE ANTI-IMPERIALIST ECONOMIC CAMPAIGN,
According to Chinese reports the demonstration on the Eastern Parade Ground, Canton, op Sunday, which was to be the signal for the ending of the boycott, concerned sclé chiefly with the question of a nation-wide anti-imperialist economic campaign:
M. Borodin, who was among the, Speakers, described the Strike pickets as the beroes of the anti-imperialist war which begana 15 years ago. Over 30,000 people attended the parade.
It would be wall to await the receipt of the text of the official speeches before passing judgment on the meeting for among the Can- tonese merchants the opinion is crystallising that an "anti-imperialist economic boycott" is a suicidal policy and they are endeavouring to find ways and means of resuming trade without coming into direct opposition with the extremist section of the Kuomintang party.
The patent fact is that since the removal of the pickets normal steamer services are being advertised and from these it is believed trade will grow.
