DECREASE IN HONGKONG FREIGHT,
Yesterday morning's shipping state Inant, showed one less arrival than on the previous day, a decreased tonnage and a drop in Hongkong carge, despite good returns from a few vessels. The decrease amounted to over 1,000 tons, as ngainst the figures of the previous day, and was accounted for by the fact thas while some steamers brought good freights, the majority of the returns were low. Freight for ports beyond increased, and on the total there was a general in crease recorded. British vessels brought most of the freight for this port

The tonnage figures were as under Total: 38,628 tons; British vessels: 0,944 tons; Other vessels: 99,394 tons,
Ata.m. yesterday there were 64 vessels in the harbour, of which were British. During the previous twenty- four hours fourteen vessels arrived, vi, five British, three French, one American, one German, three Japanese and one Chinese. The departures during the same period came to fourteen, riz, one American for Manila. one Norwegian, two French and one British for Shang- hai, one British for Bangkok, one British for Amoy, one Japanese and one British for Moji, one Chinese for Kwang Chow Wan, one British and one Dutch for Singapore, one British for Sandakan, and one Chinese for Sha U Chung. There were seven clearances, viz., one Japanese for Kedung, one British for Monado, ne Japanese for Saigon, one Japanese for Tsingtan, one British for Haiphors, one Japanese for Singapore and one British for Quinhon.

Of the cargo for Hongkong, the beat returns were 2,100 tons of general cargo and 2,950 tons of coal in British steamers, the total freight brought by British vessels being 3,606 tons. Of the remain- ing 3,869 tons in vessels of other na- tionalities, the best return was 1,000 tons of general cargo. With regard to freight for ports beyond, one British steame carried cargo, this being 1,501 tons, with 21,702 tons in vessels under other flaga. The best returns were 9,162 tons of gen- eral cargo in a German steamer, 5,33% tons of general in a Japanese steamer, and 3,940 tons of coal, also in a Japanese vessel.
SHIPPING NOTES.
The total number of deck passengers
entered for the twenty-four hours ended at 9 am, yesterday was 1,330, of which the 6.8. Hydrangea (British) from Kwang Chow Wan carried 800, and the as President Wilson (American) from San Francisco and Shanghai, 385.
Docking programmes in preparation for a renewal of river traffic are now being arranged. A number of vessels are al- ready on the süps and as soon as these are completed, their places will be taken by others.

Between twenty and thirty members of crews of junks which encountered the typhoon arrived at the Harbour Omce yesterday afternoon. They had not been shipwrecked, but had made port after a very trying ordeal, exhausted and wanting food and shelter.
