The letter advises that residents should pay frequent visits to their servants A Splendid Combination quarters, to ascertain that no strangers or dismissed servants are there. It also advocates that the Peak Residents Ass ciation authorise, the police at Gough Hill Folice Station to pay surprise visiss to private premises.

This has been, circularised by Mr. Hornell to members of the Association.

The Committee of the PR. has de- cided in fabour, of Police "pisits" of surprise," and recommends the support of its members in this direction

The Olrcular.

The circular sent out to P.R.A. mes bers reads as order

Writing under the date of September 17th, the Capaia Superintendent of Police has addreed rek Resident Aciation as follows:

In view of the recent larcenies ca the Peak which appear in most cases to have been curmitted by ex-gervants, I would recommend that the Peak E- sident Association should circulate members to the following effect :--

1. It is advisable that house hol ders should pay frequent visits to their servants' quarters in order, to ascer Bain that no strangers or dismissed. servants are occupying them.

"2-It is suggested that the officer in charge of Gough Hill Police Station should pay occasional surprise visits. Under Ordinary conditions he is not authorised to visit private premises without a warrant but if given autho rity by members of the Peak Residents' Association he could visit all houses belonging to members It must be-un- derstood that such visits are purely visits of enquiry and ill not be in the nature of raids on the premises. It sbould also be understood that in cases where strangers are found on the pre- mises members should not raise any objection to prosecuting such anautho rised persons. Failure to prosecute in these cases merely encourages outsiders to go and stay on the premises. Servants from neighbouring houses found or any, premises when visited by the officer in charge of Gough Hill Police Station would of course not he included in the term 'strangers or out- siders."

Strong Recommendation. Whilst my committee favour the Hon. Mr. Wolfe's suggestion that house hol- ders should pay frequent visits to their servanta quarters, they are of the opinion. that this in itself is nut sufficient to pre vent strangers or dismissed servants oc- cupying servants quarters and they con- sequently strongly support the Captain Superintendent of Police's recommenda- tion that members of the Peak Residents' Association should authorise the officer in charge of Gough Hill Police Station to pay occasional surprise visits to their. houses, on the distipet ünderstanding that such visits are purely visita of en- quiry and not in the nature of raids on the premises.

My committée appeal for the support. of all members in this matter and I shall be obliged if you will kindly signify on accompanying detachable grip whether you are in agreement or not.
