EAST SURREY REGT. NOVICES.
The Novices Boxing Competition of the East Surreys was gentinced at Murray Barracks last night. The contests were spirited and clean and most of the bouts were above the ordinary service standard. The best bouts were those in which Sergt. Wilson knocked out L.C. Thompson in the first round and the fight between Pte. Chown And Pta. Morton, the former krocking out his opponent in the second round. Chown had knocked out another opponent on Monday night, and it was anticipated that he would go into the final of the Welterweight contest. But in the third series of the competition, Pte. Smith defeated him on points: In boxing ability Smith was crude in comparison with Chown, but he was the aggressor throughout the fight, Chowa scarcely leading at all Chown is really a fne boxer. Another good fight was that be tween Ptc. Davis and Pte. Looby. An extra round had to be fought and Looby won narrowly. Pte, Osborne and Pts.. Hodge had also to fight an extra round, and Hodge just won.
