SHIPPING NOTES.

At the Marine Court yesterday, before Lieutenant-Commander G. F. Hole, RN., a bargoboat mistresa was fined $15, or two weeks' hard labour in default, for being under way in the harbour without exhibiting regulation lights. She pleaded guilty.

The total number of deck passengers entered for, the twenty-four hours ended ata.m. yesterday was 1,301, of which the s.s, Talamba (British) from Calcutta and Singapore carried 1,167.

Two Osaka: Shosen Kaisha stęsmers are expected to arrive to-day. The Chicago Mary come from Janan, en route to Sin- gapore, and the Kintan Maru from Dairen bound for Japan ports.

HONGKONG SHIPPING.

GENERAL DECREASE IN FREIGHT REGISTERED,

POOR RETURNS RECORDED.

There was a general decrease in all freights recorded in yesterday's ship- Ping statement. Eight fewer vessels avrived than during the previous day, but apart from this making for a de urease in tonnage and freights, the re- turns, except in two instances, were poor. Hongkong cargo showeth a decrease of over 6,000, Lons; while freight for other porta went down by nearly 3,000 tons.

TONNAGE AND NATIONALITIES.

The tonnage, figures were as under:- Total: 13,453 tons; British vessels: 9,141 tons; Other vessels: 4,312 tons.

At 3 a.m. yesterday there were 52 vessels in the harbour, of which 20 were Britist. During the previous twenty-four hours seven vessels arrived, viz., four British, two Japanese and one Chinese. The de partures during the same perind came t8 Riteen, rit, two British, and one Chinese for Amoy, two British and one Japanese for Singapore, one Dutch for Swatow, ene Japanese for Kobe, one Chinese for Kwang Chow Wan, one Chinese for Sha Chung, one Chinese for Quithon, one French for British for Manila, one Tourane, one British for Saigon and one British for Sandakan. Clearances num- Lered four, viz, one British for Hai- phong. one Japanese for Swatow, ove British for Singapore and one Japanese for Takao.
