AN INTERESTING PROGRAMME.

Vincent R. Norris Williams and Richards will meet "Big Bill" Tilden and Chapin in the final of the National Doubles Championship of the United States.

Williams and Richards to-day defeated White and Talheimer in the semi-fiant by three sets to one. The lesser known pair put up keen fight and took nineteen games from their opponents. The Blue Funnel liners Elpenor and zetor arrived at London on August 29th and September 1st respectively.

Miss Phyllis Hunt again won the ladies' event in a close swim with Miss Gourlay; while the 100 yards handicap for boys under 18 years of age also proved an interesting event.

The team race between the Army and the Navy was won by the landsmen amil much cheering by their comrades.

The Volunteer team race proved excit" ing, and the Scottish Company only suc- ceeded in securing first place from the close Armoured Car Company after a atruggle.

At the conclusion, Mr. W. Logan con- gratulated the competitors and called on Mrs. Stirling to give away the prizes Cheers were called for Mrs. Stirling and heartily given.

Dancing took place as usual to music rendered by the Lyric Orchestra.

GROUNDS ON TUNGSEA SPIT. Shanghai papers of August 30th con- tain an account of the grounding on the Tungsha Spit of the 5.8. Storviken, a Norwegian vessel. The report reads:-

The typhoon which struck Shanghai inst Wednesday and lasted until Thurs- day, although not very atong, did not pass on its way. without causing damage and one of its most serious results was the running aground on the Tungsha take place the following week Spit of the Wallen Co.'s as. Storviken, a Norwegian vessel of 7,500 tons dead- weight capacity.. The Storviken was bound for Shanghai from the west coast, 1926.cf America and was carrying a full cargo including deck load of lamber for this part.
