SIXTY-SIX RESOLUTIONS.

Only sixty-six motions have lodged, The National Amalgamated Furnishing trades demand a maximum forty-four hour week in all trades. national minimum wage of £3 is sought by the National Union of Clerks. The Boilermakers and Iron Shipbuilders" Society submit a motion for the introduc- tion of decimal coinage and metric weights and measures,

It is remarkable that not a single motion stands in the name of the Miners' Federation while the complete absence of the name of the National Union of Railwaymen from the section of the agenda relating to the extension of the powers of the General Council may also be regarded as significant.

ANTHRACITE PRODUCTION

INCREASING.

Almost every island in the Philippines, and the majority of the provinces, are known to contain coal. Development has taken place in the islands of Cebu, Zam- boanga and Batan. Most of the coal dis- covered so far has been lignite, but some high-grade bituminous has been found and there is some production of anth- racite. It is estimated that the coal fields cover an estimated area of 53 square miles and contain at least 68,000,000 short tons of coal. While the coal can be used
