MR. MACDONALD AND A JUDGE.
MR. JUSTICE ASTBURY'S VIEWS DESCRIBED AS "RUBBISH."
A remarkable attack upon a Judge of the High Court is made by Mr. Ramsay MacDonald in the July issue of The Socialist Review.
"It is said," he stated, "that the Lord Chancellor is considering the re- moval from the bench of justices who took part in the strike. I hope his at- tention has been drawn to those magis trates who came under the censure of the Home Secretary for abusing their position..
These opinions were of no more value and could claim no more.respect than the nonsense talked by the most ignorant lady in a drawing room.
"Class-Consciousness" is a word on the lips of Labour politicians, especially of those who belong to the more advanced section. Mr. Cook recently bousted that he was in an eminent degree class conscious," and I notice in the waxing literature of Labour" that much em phasis is placed on the working man's duty to cultivate class-consciousness."
What precisely does the word mean? "Nor was such abuse of judicial pesi- What is it to be" class-conscioustion confined to the local bench. The old principle of Liberalism la carrière ouverte aur talents is energetically repudiated in the assumed interest of the "under dog," who has become the spoiled child of sentimental politics.
