There were five fewer arrivals, and a decrease in freight of between four and five thousand tons. Hongkong cargo de creased by over 4,000 tons, while freight for ports beyond was less by 89 tons.

Perhaps, because of the unseasonable weather that makes Keelung, one British for Weihaiwei, one it absolutely necessary for a wrap of British for Foochow and one British for some sort to be worn at all times of Aden. All smart Paris flocked to see Yteb's mid-season collection one day last week. and found she was using kasba in a boat of charming shades for her sports suits, both plain and figured kasha, in shades of yellow, brown, pastel-pink, orange, bois de rose and blue. Toile de soie was designer had turned into the daintiest of tennis, frocks, by means of & straight cut, pleats and bands of contrasting shades. For those who still follow the tradition of white for sports wear, there were smart suits in white Bantel finished with large, decorative pearl buttons. Printed Material.

another of the materials' this elever

For afternoon frocks, there were grace- fal models in printed China, silk, printed marocain, chifter, crêpe Georgette, others in plain crêpe Georgette and satin. Decidedly, the printed material is one which has come to stay for quite a long while.. Yteb carries out the cape idea by adding wings to her lighter type of tracks, wings that rench either to the hip line (one can not speak of the waist lins as it is such a movable quantity !) or to the hem of the skirt. Chanel makes use of the same idea, too, in a number of her evening models. One, that has been a great success,-iz. carried. out in white crêpe Georgette, and is quite plain, except for three or four of these wing effects that run the whole length of the frock from the arm hole down each side, so that the effect, when the wearer walks, is a charming one of Anttering wings. Evening Frocks.

Some of the evening frocks in Yeb's col- lection are gorgeous in the extreme, parti- enlarly the beaded ones. Some of them are fashioned of net that is embroidered

pearls over a thread embroidery-motif. nct; one particularly handsome model Some are made of lace embroidered over slows cream lace and black act made over a foundation of black satin; this model is sleeveless and is fitted with modern version of the bolero. Yteb. like all big couturiers this season, is making great use of sequins as a trim- ming. One of the most handsome models shown the other day was in satín embroidered in life-size bunches of grapes worked in sequins against a back. An- ground of leaves worked in silk other frack was trimmed with the same matif, but the grapes in this case were worked in tiny scraps of coral. For the evening wraps, there were rich-looking conts in lamé, trimmed with a deep fur collar. The simpler models were made of plain or shot taffetas. I wrote some time ago of the effort that was being made this season to bring back taffetas to favour, in the form of coats, the effort! to re-establish it in the line of dresses Well, having proved a dismal failure, as the season wears on it becomes ap parent how much the idea has caught on, fortaffetas coats are now to be seen on all occasions, both at afternoon and evening functions. The reason perhaps for its success is that designers have de- vised ways and means of taking, away ita old-world look by means of quilting, Etitching, scallops and shirring and a number of other clever devices, so that taffetas may how look as smart crêpe Marocain, or even smarter, ́In | La Prisonniere the daring play that is drawing all Paris to the Femina Theatre, Mme.
