ORIENTAL COMMERCIAL BANK,

LIMITED.

LIQUIDATORS MEETING

The second meeting of creditors of the Oriental Commercial Bank, Ltd., which SIA,—I have noted certain remarks has gone into voluntary liquidation, under the head of Anglo-Chinese having suspended payment sometime ago,

was held on Wednesday afternoon. Friendship in your issue of August 3rd concerning the advisability of surrender of the Polo Ground on the part of the Hongkong Polo Club to be used as an International Recreation Centre.

Messrs. Percy Smith,. Seth and Fleming were appointed liquidators.

Mr. Lai Hin Man, à director who was appointed one of the four liquidators in the first instance, presided over an at- tendance of over sixty persons.

While the members of the Polo Club are, I am sure, as keen as anyone on

The preliminary investigation showed the advancement of Anglo-Chinese rela-doubtful debts" owing to the Bank-a Hongkong registered company-as over 8991,000.

tions I feel that there are certain con- siderations that should be taken into

account by those who are proposing a Shares held by the Oriental Con scheme involving the resumption of pre-mercial Bank in the Canton Bank of perty already assigned to others.

The present Polo Ground was handed Sar Francisco-not to be confused with over to the Polo Club in exchange for the San Francisco branch of the Bank their former ground (inside the Race of Canton, Ltd. (of Hongkong)-stood at Course) shortly after it was reclaimou over 8156,000. and it was, as is all reclaimed ground Other debts owing to Bank mentioned recently completed, in a very rough were 8630,000 by Mr. Chong Chung shape. At the expense of the members-Yeuk; 825,000 by the Leung Shun Bank; largely assisted by a well known local 833,000 by the Kung Shing Wo Arm Hong-the area was turfed and made into 85,000 by Chang Yn Ki the ground it is to-day. That this has been accomplished not without consider- able sacrifice is evidenced by the fact that in this summer only, some 83,000 to $3,500 is being expended on the turf alone."

There appears in your paper the sug gestion that the Polo Club might be moved some location in Kowloon and to show that this is practical you state that polo locally is a game that starts at 4 p.m.. Apart from the fact that polo (except on Saturdays) never commences before 5 (ia.order to allow men from onced to get down in time) I should like to point out that polo cannot be separ- ated from a close proximity to the Jockey Club Stables and the Race Course. The former is necessary for obvious reasons and to build new accommodation for ponics in Kowloon would prove a costly task. The latter is necessary as a place for exercise and I am unaware of any place in the Colony as suitable.

The meeting subsequently appointed Messrs. Percy Smith, Seth and Fleming as liquidators and the four liquidators previously appointed ther withdrew
