Yesterday's shipping statement show- ed an increase in tonnage and freights, compared with the previous twenty four hours. The total tonarge entered was 33,007 tons, of which British vessels made up a tonnage of 10,584 tons. Hongkong cargo increased by over 7,000 tons, and freight for ports beyond went up, by over 9,000 tons, A feature of the shipping returns was the predominance

of British yessels over ships of other nationalities, Vessels flying the red en- sign brought 95 per cent of the cargo for Hongkong, and accounted for about two- thirds of the freight for ports Leyond.

At 9 a.m. yesterday there were 56 vessels in the harbour, of which 30 were British. During the previous twenty- four hours sixteen vessels arrived, riž, Fine British, one French, one Norwegian, two Dutch and three Chinese. The de- partures during the same period namber- eight, iz, one French for Saigon, one Chinese for Hauhoi, one Chinese for Sha

The China Navigation Co., Shanghai, has inaugurated a new Shanghai-Dairen line Tsingtao on the outward trip and via Chefoo, Weihaiwel, and Tsingtao

on the homeward with the sa Taming and the 8.8. Luchow, ench a passenger steume of 2,000 tons.

rived in port yesterday morning from

Dalny and Canton in ballast, and pro-

teeded to Taikop Dock for repairs.
