HONGKONG SHIFFING,
TAR HONGKONG DAILY PRESS, THURSDAY, JULY 22ND, 1926
Despite the fact that there were six more arrivals than during the previous twenty-four hours, yesterday's state ment only showed a total increase in traight of over 9,000 tona. However, cargo for Hongkong showed much im- proved figures, there being an increase registered, compared with the previous period, of over 4,000 tons, but freight for ports beyond dropped by over 2,000 tons. Two-thirds of the cargo for Hong- kong was brought by British vessels, which incidentally were half the arrivals and practically all carried fairly heavy freights. Eight vessels arrived later in the day, too late for inclusion in yer- ly-terday's statement, and this indicat
ed that there will be another-heavy list et arrivals for to-day's returns, but the freight Egures did not indicate a large amount for Hongkong, although ports beyond appeared to show up better. Two of the vessels thus arriving were in

With regard to the damage caused by lightning to the Kan Sing (the new re- scue and salvage tug) reported in our yesterday's issue, it appears that the aft mast was struck by lightning from the top, where the iron ring fixed to
hold the wireless, and to the bottom. Much water penetrated the hold and the wireless room and other parts below deck were also flooded. The water was baled out with buckets. -
The total number of deck passengers entered for the twenty-four hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday was 735, of which the 2.8. Soochów (British) from Shanghai carried 113, the 1.
