Yesterday's shipping statement show. ed a considerable drop in the freight | of the previous twenty-four hours. With only three fewer arrivals than during the preceding period, there was a total decrease recorded of 23,603 tons. Hong- kong cargo did not fare too badly, only showing a drop of 1.526 tons but freight for ports beyond had diminished "by | 21,781 tons. Again vessels of nation alities other than British carried the bulk of the "freight, but with regard to that for Hongkong, British steamers gave & fair showing.

before Lieut.-Commander, G. F. Hole, R.Nthe steersman of a trading junk was fined $15, with the alternative of two weeks' hard labour, for allowing the host to be under way without exhibiting the regulation lights.
At the same, Court, three boatmasters were each fined 810, or ten days' hard Tabour in default for using bright lights in a prohibited area (Lyemun Pass), for fishing. Another boatmaster was fined 88 for carrying passengers in his fishing boat, this being a breach of the condi- tions of his licencs.--
A notice, issued by the Customs Authorities at Shanghai, appears in the Harbour Office, and states that the Whangpoo Conservancy Board's dredger Hai Hu, about to commence dredging Uperationa over all area of the Astraen Chahnel. During the course of these operations those in charge of vessels are required to approach the vicinity of the. dredger proceeding at reduced speed and sound a long blast on the whistle.
