The number of vessels in the harbour at 6 n.. yesterday was 63, of which 2 were British. During the previous twenty-four hours sixteen vessels arrived, riz.-eight British, one American, two Japanese and five Chinese. The depar tures ease to ten, vis-one Japaneto for Moji, two British for Amoy, one British for Saigon, two British for Shanghai, one Chinese for Haubol, one Dutch for Singapore, one Chinese for Bha U Cheung and one British for Haiphong.

British steamers carried 4,108 tons the highest amount being 1,330 tons. Other vessels brought 2,205 tons, with 010 tons the highest entry. Of the freight for. ports Leyond, three British vessels con- tained 12,853 tons, one ship carrying 7,000 tons. The remaining 5,427 tone was in two vessels of other nationality.

The mastor of tho 8.8. · Lai Sang (British) from Calcutta and Bingapore, reported to the Harbour Office yesterday that during the voyage to Hongkong two deck passengers died at Bes.

News was received in Shanghai on the 19th inst. by the local office of the Canka Shosen Kaisha, Ltd, that one of their fleet had gone aground outside Antwerp and had been badly damaged. In the telegram received by the local manager, the Altai Varu was stated to have been about thres miles out from Antwerp when the accident happened and was on her way to Japan from Hamburg. It is known that she is badly damaged but The total number of deck passengers whether tho will be a total loss is not entered for the twenty-four hours ended known for certain. The vessel left Hamat am. yesterday was 873, of which burg, on May 20th and reached Rotter- the 8,8. Hydrangea (British) from dam on June 1st. Her next and last Kwang Chow Wan carried 314, and the place of call in Europe was Autwory and 5.5. Lai Song (British) from Calcutta she is stated to have left that port on and Singapore 314. The Altai Mara had 4 siderable quantity of cargo aboard for Shanghai and now is anxiously awaited Iccally concerning this.
