LOYAL SUPPORT. To all the Staff I desire to express my deep appreciation of their constant loyal support, of the thoroughness and ability with which they have thrown themselves into their work, and of the completentu with which they have identified them selves with the interests of the College. The year 1025, though in some respects it was a trying ordeal, has brought us one great good in that it has tested the reality of that bond of mutual sympathy which has always foined studenta and staff. It has also given me one more reason to add to many memories of past years for a growing prido in and satisfaction with the essential loyally and esprit da corps of the students of our College. Students of past years, and the staff both past and present have set a high standard for our attainment in this respect, and the year now concluded. has proved that the present student body has no intention of lowering the stan- dard. I shall always remember with up- preciation of the loyalty to the school shown by the Prefects in a trying year, and of the qualities of leadership which they showed. But this loyalty and wil- lingness to hasume responsibility for leadership w not confined to the Pre- fects. For instance the free Night School Committee lost some of its Principal RAILWAY officials in the summer but their places were at once taken by other volunteers, and the school suffered no interruption. At much sacrifice of time and Inbour our students generally shouldered this rea ponsibility which they had previously assumed for the education of pooras boys,

A school cannot make a more valuate contribution to the community than this that it should call forth a spirit of loyalty to the community of discipline self-control, and unity in a time of trial. I think that with the help of God we are achieving something towards this aim,

LOSSES SUSTAINED.

I would mention particularly one ceremony which marked the year now passed. I refer to the unveiling by His Excellency the Governor of the portrait of the late Mr. Chau Siu Ki which hangs above our platform. The College ffered an incalculable less in the tragio death of Mr. Chau. in July last. He was from the beginning a sincere and valued friend of the College. As one of our Trustees and as a member of our Council ho showed in many ways his deep interest in all that concerned the school. His memory remains as a rich inherit- azce to the College. As one of our Bene- factors his name will always be held in honour among us.

Another great loss which our Council sustained was caused by the resignation of his seat by Archdeacon Barn,tt when ho left the South China Mission of the Church Missionary Society to return to England. The College will never forget all that it owes to him as its first-Warden and its constant friend and counsellor

Vacant placed on our Council bare been filled by the appointment of Bir Henry Pollock, E.C., Mr. P. Lauder, Mr. Chau Kwan Lam, M.A., and Mr.

Chan Tsun Nin, L.L.B. The acceptance of office by these gentlemen give us added assurance that the direction of the College in these anxious days is in canable hands.

The Warden mentioned that the gold medal for the Dux, of the Chinese school was given by the Hon. Dr. R. II. Kote- wall, who was unable to be present. The warden further stated that one student in the sixth form took first place in everything except one subject. Under the rules of the school, however, no student in the English classes was allow ed to take more than two prizes.
