Some weeks ago, when it was known that His Holiness the Pepe had elected Monsignor Valtorta to succeed the late Bishop Pozzoni, of beloved memory, was, very properly, resolved that in addi- 'tion to any sectional or subsidiary func tions organized in His Lordship's honour, there should be one to comprehend the whole Catholic community and this would, therefore, necessarily be Interna- tional in character.

This resolution has been made effective to-day in this place, where there are re presentatives of eleven nationalities all of whom are inspired by the same desire to offer His Lordship a public welcome. UNIVERSITTY OF THE CHURCH.

He had known Father Valtorta as a missionary, and realised the splendid work he had accomplished. In his address the Chairman said that it was only spine two months since they last net to nominate a representative for the Legislative Council, during, the absence on leave of the late Mr. P. H. Holyoak. Little did they think at that time they should have to meet again a soon to nominate a representative for the full period of four years. This, however, became necessary through Mr. Holyoak's sudden death, which occurred soon after his arrival in England.

Mr. Holyoak, continued the Chairman, served the Chamber on the Legislative. Council for a period of eleven years,

OBITUARY,

FUNERAL OF LATE MRS. CHOY

CHONG SUI.

The funeral of Mrs. Choy Chong Sui took place on Sunday afternoon at the Chinese Christian Cemetery amid many manifestations of regret among the lead- ing Chinese families of the Colony. The route of the funeral procession was along Caine Road, Des Yeux Road and up past the University. The Chang Wah Band and Chung Sing Band were in, at- tendance and the procession was a most impressive one. At the Cemetery a short service was conducted by the Rev. Cheung Chuk Ling.
