Yesterday's shipping statement war notable for the large number of arrivals. They were much" above the daily average that has prevailed for a considerable time pust. Partly on accquet of this, and also because of some particularly large entries made, cargo showed a big all around increase on the figures for the provious twenty-four hours. Hongkong cargo, usually below the total freight for ports beyond, yesterday came within one hundred tons of that for other places. There was a total increase of 97,400 tons, Hongkong cargo being up by 17,173 tous, and freight for ports beyond by 10,227

tons.
