YAR REACHING EFFECTS OF SURRENDER.
LONDON, May 27th.
Abd el Krim's surrender does not merely end the career of the world's most picturesque figure, whose five years guerilla warfare against two European Powers began by a crushing defeat of the Spaniards in 1021, "but probably ter minates, the secular quarrel between the Moors and Spaniards.
Abdel Krim, no ignorant mountainer, was the guest of the Government of Madrid, for two years before he attack el them. As a result, of his special course of study in Madrid he engaged foreigners to teach the tribesmen methods "of modern warfare, and he controlled the Riffian troops by means of an exten sivé telephone system.
Among the political consequences of the Riffian adventure has been the estab lishment.cf a Dictatorship in Spain, and the recognition by France of the neces sity of close Franco-Spanish co-operation i. Morocco, while the downfall of Abdel Krim will have repercussions in the whole of the Moslem world.
Tal - Times, in an editorial, hopes Abd el Krim's correspondence. will be published in order to reveal to the world. the intrigues of the mining concession aires and financiers who exploited Riff eupidity and fanaticism.
THE BITTIAN COLLAPSE.
TANGIERS, May 27th
The surrender of Abd el Krim was not surprising, as it was known he was in Bight, if not hiding, fearing assassina tion by the disappointed followers of the French who had captured the greater part of Jebel Hamman, the mountajä fastness which was Abd el Krim's last sanctuary
His own tribe, the Beni Wariaghel, had submitted, and practically the whole Bil territory was in the hands of the French and Spanish.
The only two tribes intact, the Gho mara and Djebela, were apparently un- aware of Abd et Krim's collapse.
