The China Merchants S.N. Shanghai office received two telegrams from Batung on May 10th with the in- formation that the str. Kiang King, which has been on the rocks between Ichang and Chungking since last Novem ber has at last been refloated.

This is the second attempt that has been made to relloat her. The first w made on April 13th, when the water com- menced to rise. It rose with remarkable rapidity and after seven days started to fall as rapidly as it had risen.

On April 10th, while the water was still rising, two shores under the ship's counter were carried away by the current and the ship's crew started lowering ab. the forward end. It was a difficult and dangerous job as the freshet was increas ing and the current undermining the All ground under the ship's bottom. moorings were laid ready to slip in case the ship should launch." Early in the evening all the after supports were car- ried away and all hands worked at capa- eity to lower the vessel forward. They had no food and no rest for two days and nights.

On April 20th, at two in the morning, the ship took charge and carried away all shares. She slipped about 40 feet." The holds were sounded after this and were found to be dry; there was only a small leak in the fire room which, was stopped immediately with ennent.

Three days later the ship started training heavily and rivets sprung on the port side, These were plugged with soft wood and cemented from the inside. The captain later ordered all hands on" shore with all their belongings as the Fessel was unsafe. Tarpaulin tents were rigged and under them the crew lived for are days, in great discomfort, with a heavy downpour of rain the whole time.

By the 28th the water had fallen again and all that could be done was to make preparations for launching the ship when are hereby notified that the Carge will be disis Tose again. The vessel was made fast charged into Holt's Wharf, Kowloon, where it to the rocks by cable and chains and will lie at Consignees risk and anbject to shorell up. A trench was dug round her Terms and Conditions of Storage at Halt and rocks blasted, logs being laid for Wharf. The Cargo will be ready for Delivery ward to help in floating her at the next
