After one postponement, the Victoria Recreation Club were favoured with fine weather for the g4th annual athletic mecting on Saturday afternoon.

In the race for the 100 yarda champion-Tur o' War (Catch. Weight).The East ship of the Colony, Mr. Q. P. Lammert Surrey Regiment beat H.M. Submarines (the winner) is credited with having by two straight pulls in 14.1-88ces, and

While offering sincere congratula- tions to Mr. Lammert in having lowered the previous record of 10.1-5, created by F C Carrol in 1908, equalled by A. W. Andrew in 1910, by E. M. Omar in 1920, by A. Rahmid in 1921 and by D. D. Urquhart last year, the only conclusion to be reached is that if the time is correct the distance is short of 100 yards; and probably was BO when the 10.1-8 record was established and equalled,

It is high time that an Athletic Asso ciation was formed in the Colony to take control of all meetings, whose pro- moters desire recognition for alleged **records."

At present the average meeting in the Colony is conducted along lines that are not calculated to encourage keenness in athletics, rules being adhered to more in the breach then, the observańce.

There was friction with regard to the tug-of-war over the boots worn by the Surreya, the Naval men claiming that nails and heel tips are against the rules. As no conditions were laid down, the Naval men had to pull at a great dis advantage. The conditions at the R.A. sports last week were: “Regimental boots to be worn without studs. No locking. No sitting. Whether these conditions are usual is immaterial. The main point is
