A feature of yesterday's shipping statement was the noticeable increase in the number of arrivals compared with the preceding twenty-four hours. More- over the number of vessels arriving later in the day, too late for inclusion in yesterday morning's returns indicated that to-day's figures also would be large. Cargo necessarily showed a big increase. nearly nine thousand tons as compared with the previous day, although freight for Hongkong was four thousand tons below that catered for the preceding period.

Capt. kumata, from Middles ended at o am yesterday showed that borough Singapore, the formernt that hour there were 60 vessels in port she left on March 13th, with 472 the harbour, of which 33 were British. tons of general cargo, lying at Row. The arrivals over this period numbered fourteen, eiz-seven British, one Dutch, loon Wharf.-N.Y.K. Kotva Mama, Japanese str., 1,345 tons, one American, four Japanese and one Capt, S. SHIPPING NOTES,

At the Marine Court yesterday, be fore Lieut.-Commander G, F. Hole, R.N.. two junk 'inasters were cuch fined $10, with the alternative of ten days' hard labour, for anchoring their junks in the Cable Reserve at Tai Kok Tsui. At the same Court, three bontanistresses were ench fined" B, or five days' hard labour in default, for being on the outside af five other boats alongside the Kwangchow.

The master of the .s. Shirala (British) from Calcutta and Singapore, reported to the Harbour Office yesterday that during the voyage one' Chinese infant. died. The master of the s,s: Hai Yang' (British) from Penang and Singapore, reported the death of a Chinese deck Passenger from beri beri.

A telegram recived at the Haubour Office. from the master of the s.8. Krea vicken states that this vessel, passed a submerged junk in Latitude 92.40 N.. Longitude 11001 E. The junk is classifi ed as being dangerous' to navigation:

The total number of deck passengers entered for the twenty-four hours ended at 9 am yesterday was 1,543, of which the ea. Shirala (British) from Calcutta and Singapore carried 723, the 3.5. fai Fàng (British) from Penang and Sin- gapore 32, and the ..« Hydrange (British) from Kwang Chow Wan 210.

Of the cargo entered for Hongkong, carried in over fifty per cent.

The British vessels, namely 4,642 tona. heaviest entries were 1,200 tons and 1,00% Lons. There were two four-figure entries among the vessels of other nationalities,

mely 1.5 tons by the American ar rival and 1,367 by a Dutch steamer. With regard to freight for parts beyond. entries were all fairly heavy. The heaviest wore 7,204 tons and 5,400 tens fath by Japanese steamers, with one British arrival entering, 4,40 tons.
