THE HONGKONG DAILY PRESS
The shipping statement for yesterday showed the number of vessels arriving during the twenty-four hours ended at 9 am to be above the average, that has prevailed for many months past. Consequently there was a very heavy in cruns in cargo entered, both that for longkong and that for ports beyond. port was brought in British vessels Well over fifty per cent of cargo for this while that being taken to ports beyond was also mostly in British steamers.
The number of vessels in the harbour at 8 am, yesterday was 66, of which 34 wree British. The arrivals, during the twenty-four hours ended at 5.m. yes- terday numbered eighteen, nine British, one Portuguese, two German, one Danish, two Japanese and thres Chinese
