COMPANY REPORT."

MESSRS. LANE, CRAWFORD, LTD.

The annual report of Messrs. Lane, Crawford, Ltd., states:

Stocks of rubber no doubt increased during 1925 though net, I believe; to the extent shown in some of the published

The Directors have pleasure in stb estimates. 1025 production, according to the best authority I know, was probably mitting to shareholders a statement of 625,000 tons against 610,000 tons absorbs made up to 25th February, 1936 ed. The surplus of 15,000 tons (if that is Account after allowing for Depreciation The balance at credit of Profit and Loss the right figure) anavoidably passed and Bad and Doubtful Debts, together into the hands of users. Six weeks ago London stocks were limited to 2,000 tons and extraordinary as it may appear only 3,000 tons of that was No. 1 rubber.

The figures for London stocks are rising somewhat and buyers will probably hold of the market as far as they can for the present. At this season of the year they generally can afford to and they will be basing extravagant expectations on the 100 per cent. release in Malays. Besides there is a deal of human nature in buyers as well as sellers and they generally hold off on a decline. So I expect to see a certain amount of ac cumulation in April and possibly in

May.

with balance brought forward from last which the Directors propose to allocate year, viz., 824,193.93 amounts to 830,994.38

as follows:-Dividend of 30 cta per share, $37,500.00; carry forward to new account, 82,494.35.

Board of Directors.-The board of Directors consists of Mr. A. 6. D. Cous- land (Chairman), Mr. W. E. L. Shenton, Mr. Chan Tong, Mr. M. Manak, Mr. E. M. Raymond Directors), Mr. F. M Crawford, Mr. W. A. Eustace (Managing Directors). In accordance with the Articles of Association, Mr. M. Manuk retires, but, being elegible, offers himself, for re-election,

This will not, however, I think, go Secretary. Mr. 8. J. Jordain. very far. Only a serious collapse in Auditors. The accounts have been world trading activity could fundamen-audited by Messrs. Linstead & Davis who tally weaken the strength of tha, rubber offer themselves for re-election.. position, which lies in the fact that we are every day getting nearer to a time when the world will be clamouring for more rubber than it can get. It seems to me very doubtful if there will be a sur plus of production in 1993 although the brunt of the demand is likely to be felt. in the second and not in the first half of the year. And producers are now in a. stronger position than they ever. have been. Instead of being in debt they are in funds. Formerly focal selling has been a source of weakness to the resist anec put up by London against a decline in force. I do not, anticipate, that being the case. now.

After all if buyers hold stocks it costa them a dollar a pound-or whatever the market price is to do so. It producers: hold, it costs therr only 25 cents to 35 cants of their estate cost. So it is reason- able we should do our share of the hold- ing, and in view of the prospects of price recovery, and the fact that we are no longer under the saing pressure to sell, I believe it is likely to be done.

The ultimate prospects of the

industry' Bear to me so good that only a very short-sighted estate owner will press his trees for erop at present. Estates have never, in my experience, been in such good condition as they are to-day and we owe that to the conservation of bark forced or us by restriction. I believe planters of all races have learnt that lesson and will not readily forget it The long-sighted policy is going to pay us Both in the immediate and the more distant future.
