A feature of yesterday's shipping state] ment was the large number of arrivals, these being above the daily average.” Half ne vessels entering port for the period reported on were British. Another lea- ture of the return was that the total cargo entered (both for and not for Hongkong) exceeded the average daily total for a very long time past, boing several thousand tons abova" the usual entries.

Of the cargo "entered for Hongkong. 6,958 tons were carried in British vessels, and 6,336 tong in vessels of other nation- -aliths. The heaviest entry made was 2,734 tons by a Japanese vessel, and the next best 2.188 by a British Two British vessels entered over one thou

and tons each nod there was a similar entry by an American arrival. Entries of chego for ports beyond were all fairly heavy there being two one entry of over six thousand tong, one of over £ve theusand tons, two of over four thousand tons each, one of over three thousand tons, two over of over two thousand tons |énch and one of one thousand tons. There was only one entry that was at all low. this heing one of 50 tons only. The heaviness of cargo for ports beyond shown in the total, however, was mainly ac cpantel for by an entry of 11:140 tons of bulk cil for other ports.
