TONIGHT'S A.D.C. PERFORMANCE.

To-night is the opening night of the A.D.C.'s spectacular production of which there was a Dress Rehearsal ** the Theatre Royal last night. It was quita evident to all those who were present that the ever-baunting fear of Hongkong audi- ences that on the First Night no play can ever be ready and in good running order, is in this case absolutely groundless. ·

The play goes with a swing that re flects great credit on all concerned, and credit must also be given to those who designed and painted the wonderful accnic effects..

It was unquestionably an inspiration on the part of the Secretary of the A.D.C. to arrange a Matinee on Thursday after. goon, as the play is one which will attract the younger generation, if only by reason. of its gorgeous setting and its savour of the magical. It should be especially noted that at the Matince-30 pm. sharp-all schools and children are ad- mitted to the stalls at half the regular price.

This Matinee will enable" many who might have found is impossible to attend an evening performance to make sure of not missing an A.D.C. production that promises to be as successful as any hitherto staged.

Meanwhile, as the booking is going on in the usual local.way-that is in a last minute fush for seats-those who wish to make sure of their seats should lose no time in securing them. at the "earliest opportunity this morning.

THE INTERPORT CONDITIONS. The N.-C. Daily News in offering the members of the Shanghai Golf Club interport team congratulations on their doings in Hongkong says:

While or this subject certain details must be already having the consideration of the Shanghai Golf Club Committee, and chie of these is the return match with Hongkong. It may be hoped that Hongking will be able to come here to play the return match about the end of October, which would" be a very con- venient date, as the players would then have the additional attraction of the races. That, however, is for Hongkong to decide, but what we do want to do is to send a team to Manila to see how our players will fire there. It must be remembered that three or four years ago we had a Manila team here, and although unsuccessful, they gave a ne exhibition of the fighting spirit The Manila zolfers encountered at Hongkong showed that they were able to improve upon the form, shown by their predecessdts, and so well did they play that it is obvious that a very strong side will be required on the part of Shanghai if they hope to obtain a victory in the Philippines The hope of the Shanghai Golf Club is to send a team to Manila if possible at China New Year, 1927, and aspirants for a position in this who can possibly arrange their holidays to suit, might bear this in mind.

COMPETITION CONDITIONE. "

One great advantage which interport conditions generally had at Hongkong was in the presence of Mr. R. G. Mac- donald, the President of the Shanghai Golf Club, who accompanied the team." The Shanghai Golf Club presented the trophy for interport competition, and since the contest was inaugurated, there have been so great changes in the con- ditions under which golf is played that of necessity a change governing the rules has been called for. Mr. Macdonald was fortunately able to discuss possible terations with Hongkong. One change so faz made is that the trophy shall b Competed for at Hongkong and Shangha in aucceeding years alternately. This hta resulted in a great improvement, for at one time it looked as if either winning port might retain it indefinitely, and that there would be no chanes to kee local golfers perform on their home course.

The suggestion. has now been put forward, and is very much fatoured by Hongkong, that foursomes should be sub- atituted for four-ball matches on the second day of the competition. It is realized that while the two-ball foursome is quite out of fashion on ordinary occasions, it must be conceded that it is a very great test of golf. In a four. ball match, one player who is on his form may succeed in carrying his partner right through the match, but nok so in the foursome. So while four-balls "will" probably always be more popular in ordinary events, there is every, reason tó conclude that the two ball foursome does constitute a better test of combined golf ing ability, which is wanted in an inter- port event,

GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS AT HOME. CHARGE FOR ADMISSION

At a recent meeting in London of the Championship Committee of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of 'St. Andrewsies it was decided to make charge for admission to the amateur and open- championships, to be held at Muir- field and St. Annes-on-Sea respectively, though the decision will not in any way effect the free choice of course for such tournaments. Regarding the open cham- pionship, it was agreed that the first hundred players in the qualifying com petitions, and all those who tie for the 100th place, shall enter the competition t proper, instead of 80 and all ties as in previous years. The championships will be decided at St. Annes on June 22nd, 2370, and 24th. One round will be.play- ed on each of the first two days, and then all those who are 15 strokes or more behind the leader will retire, and the remainder play two rounds on the third day, thus completing the 72 holes The national handicap limit for amateur antrants to this year's open in 2
