Yesterday's shipping statement showed that the number of vessels in the har- bour at a.m. was #5, of which 38 were British.

For the twenty-four hours ended at am, yesterday arrivals numbered_nine, v, two British. one Dutch, ons Partu- guese, one French, ons German and three Japanese. Over 15 same period, there were seven departures, nainely one for Singapore, one for Chefoe, Swatow, ono for Rectang, one for Takao, one for Shanghaid one for Amoy; with six clearances.

Of the cargo entered for Hongkong, 1,802 tons were carried in British vessels. The heaviest entry was 2.000 brought by a German vessel, the next best being 1,475 tons in a British steamer. A fen ture of the returns was again the heavy entries for ports beyond, which, although net as large as the day before, were con siderably heavier than the cargo brought for this port All four entries of cargo for ports beyond Hongkong ran into four figures, the heaviest entry being one of 7,808 tona.

The arrivals for the twenty-four hours ended at 9 am. yesterday rere as under: The S.A. Mau Sany (British) from -Sandakan with 6,900 cubic feet of timber and 913 tons of general cargo and mail; the as. Phu Song (British) from Tientsin and Shanghai with 13 tons of general cargo and mail: the .. Tjimannek (Dutch) from Batavia and Balikpapan with 308 tons of miscellaneous cargo, mail and 4,701 tons for ports beyond; the ss. Hoinam Portugues) from Kwang Chow Wan with 150 tons of general cargo Haiphong with 300 tons of general and and mail; the ss. Hovoi (French) from mail: the 8.3. Munkerland (German) from Miri with 2.063 tons of general yond: the ss. Frylon Maru (Japanese) cargo. mail and 7,806 tony for ports be from Yokohama and Shanghai with 34 tons of general carra, nai and 4,480 Mara (Japanese) from Kobe and Manila tons for ports beyond: the sa. SHIPPING MOVEMENTS.

The R. S. Empress of deia arrived at Shanghai on February 24th at 11 a.m., leaves this morning a 8 o'clock, and is due at Hongkong on Saturday, February 7th.

The RMS Empress of Russia, from Hongkong, on February 6th, arrived at Vancouver on February 22nd.

The P.&O. 8/s. Khyber, from Hong- kong, arrive at Marseillee on February 21st at 6 at

At the Marine Court yesterday, before Lieut. Commander G. P. Hole, R. sixteen boatmasters and beatmistresses were charged with lying, inshore, within 100 yards of low water mark. Fifteen of them were fined $2 each, with the alter- native of two days' hard labour; while the remaining defendant was remanded antil this morning, in order that the might have the opportunity of bringing witness to prove that her boat was inshore while she had gone for a doctor' in view of her daughter's illness."

The total number of deck passengers for Hongkong entered for the twenty- four hours ended at 9 a.in. yesterday was 972, of which the biggest entry was 176.

The Caledon Shipbuilding and Ea- gineering Co., Ltd., have launched at, Dundee the single screw motor vessel Stentor, built, to the order of Messrs. A. Holt & Co., of Liverpool. The vessel, which is designed for cargo trade in the East, is of the following dimensions:- Length, 425 ft., breadth, 55 ft 6 in and depth, 31 ft. 9 in.; with a gross tonnage of 6,500. The vessel will be fitted with Diesel engines.
