PRESENTATION TO MR. J. REID.
for the occasion.
In former years the Institution of Engineers and Shipbuildera of Hongkong have held in annual ball, but in view of existing conditions arising out of the strike and on account of the expense involved in the holding of a ball, it was decided sometime ago by the com- mittee to hold a dinner in place.
This dinner was held last night at the Roof Garden of the Hongkong Hotel and proved very pleasant and enjoyable. The Roof Garden was attractively decorated An interesting feature of the proceed ings was a presentation made to Mr. J. Reid, Manager of the Taikoo Dockyard and Engineering Company, and a very old member of the Institution of En- gineers and Shipbuilders of Hongkong, on the occasion of his retirement. This consisted of an illuminated address from the members of the Institution, in which it tribute was paid to Mr. Reid's fifteen years membership of the Institution. He was also presented with a Chinese silver salver, inscribed "Presented to Mr. James Reid, Manager of the Takeo Dockyard and Engineering Company, as a token of esteem on his retirement, 19th February, 1926.''
Mr. B. L. Frose (President of the In stitution) was in the chair, and among the guests present were the Hon. Pre- sident, HE the Governor (Sir Cecil Clementi, K.C.M.G.), Mr. J. Reid, the
