THE FANTING. HÙNT,

-BRIGHT” PROSPECTS FOR CHINA NEW YEAR MEETING,

SATISFACTORY ENTRIES RECEIVED.

[BY ARGUS.

His Excellency tho Governor and Lady Clementi, accompanied by the Hon. Mr. ER Halifax, found time on Sunday afternoon to inspect the new steeple- chase course at Kwanti, near Fanling.

Both Sir Cecil and Lady Clementi ex- pressed themselves as plensed that an opportunity had been given to encourage cross-country riding and, it is quite on the cards that at future meetings will be found entries from Government House Stables.

Sir Cecil readily consented to become a patron of the Hunt and both he and Lady Clementi promised to attend the inauguration meeting during China New Year holidays, Monday, February 13th

Entries for the meeting closed last night and are highly satisfactory under the circumstances...

The programma consists of the follow. ing five events:-

1. OPEN HEAVY WEIGHT STEEPLECHASE." Catch weights, 165 lbs. About 2 miles over the Steeplechase Course.

2. THE HUNT STEEPLECHASE. For Sub- scribers to the Fanling Hant. For ponies that have been hunted at least three times. Catch weights, 160 lbs. About 9 miles over the Steeplechase Course.

3. THE CAUSEWAY BAY STEEPLECHANE- Open to members of the Polo Club, on "bond fide Polo ponies. Catch weights,

165 lbs. About 1 miles.

4. VOLUNTEER HUNT CUP. Open to all members of the Hongkong Defence Corps on bond fide M.I. ponies. Catch weights, 185 lbs... About 1 miles.

3. OPEN LIGHT-WEIGHT STEEPLECHASE. About 2 miles over the Steeplechase Course. "Catch weights, 150 lbs.

The course is at Kwanti, about 1-miles along the Shatsukok road from Fanling railway station.

Arrangements are being made by the Kowloon-Canton Railway Management to: run a special train to Fauling, where, in all probability the Shataukok train will be in readiness to take passengers to the course. If this train is not available ar rangements for transport will be by bus After the races, a special train will leave Fanling for Kowloon, at a time to be announced later. Cash sweeps will be run on each race and facilities will doüb:- less be available for those who wish to

back their fancy over the sticks," though no totalisator or pari-inutuel will be provided at the first meeting."

The enthusiasm. in high quarters and the generous support of owners have already won half the battle. All that re- maina is for the "racing" public to show, by attending the meeting on February 15th, that it appreciates the effort being made to encourage cross-country riding. as a pastime and steeplechasing as a holiday attraction.
