The following matter is taken from the November Bulletin of the Cham- ber of Commerce of the State of New York, which is one of the most, if not the most, powerful and influential commercial bodies in the United States

to-day.

The condition of affairs now existing and that has existed for some time past in China challenges the attention of the world; not only because it disastrously affects the Chinese people but because it vitally affects international relationships,

The Church Council which came into being after the annual inceting of last year, was able to advise the Church Body on various taatters of importance-it is good to note that two Chinese are, now members "of the Council. The councillors, at a later stage, drafted out reports on the various activities of the Cathedral, and made suggestions which will be put into. fuller practice when the times are more pro- pitious,

Mr. Owen Hughes,

The Bishop then referred to the Fukien Cathedral at Foochow, now in the course of erection. When the Bishop of Fukien was passing through here a short while ago, he had a conversation with him and Mr. Powell and they thought that, as the Mother Church of the Diocese, ther should make some gift towards the new building. It was 20 years ago since Foo- chow was separated from this diocese. It was hoped that the new Cathedral
