HONGKONG TRADE NOTES.

CHINA TIN,

The total exports of China Tin from Hongkong during the year 1995, amounted to approximately 1,850 tons as compared with 7,350 tons in 1924 and 8,600 tons in 1823. Of these 7,850 tons, the principal consumers, have been:

The total imports into Hongkong during the year amounted to about 7,500 tons. The stocks in Hongkong were low during the whole year. The local price, which follows the movements of the price of the Straits Tin, has £uctuated within nare rower limits than in former years. The hignest point for the year was Hk, 8141 per picul in the beginning fo January 1995 and the lowest point was Hk. $121 in March. The months of June to October, were very quiet while the business: w58 somewhat active during the first four or five months as well as towards the end of the year.

WOOLLENS 1925.) During the year 1925 there was very little ordering principally on account of the Strike and Boycott. Owing to a rumour of the early settlement of these troubles some fresh business was put through in December. Woollens have come to stay in China and no matter what e prevailing conditions are there will always be a demand for this line. This is evidenced by the fact that clearances of woollens during the strike and boycott have not been unsatisfactory. The mer chant has not cleared the obstacles set up to bar the entry into China of these goods. This has been done by the Chi- nese dealers here to whom the goods were sold. England has practically no competi tors in woollens, whereas in cottons the Japanese are making great headway in China at the expense of Manchester. The business which was not forthcoming in 1925 is not lost but only deferred. Un- fortunately business deferred is like hope deferred" inasmuch as it"makieth sick the heart of the manufacturer.
