The appearance of " Humphry Clinker in the fac new edition of Smollett's novels is a reminder of Smolletes pas sionate love for his native country, which had given him little save birth and education. Smollett translated "Don Quixote," and he himself was across grained, Caledonian variety of Quixote: Many of his troubles proceeded from shampionship of the under-dog: he was when the Whigs were in the ascendant, Jacobite when the Reba lion was broken the publication of his Tenrs of Scotland in 1748 was an evidence of his intrepidity-and he was one of the first writers to expose the Iamentable condition of the French pea santry and to foreshadow the Revolution.
Mr. Baldwin's speech referred to above recalls that it was of the mid-Victorian Parliaments that Dickens, writing of his experiences in the Press Gallery at Westminster, said: "Night after night, I record predictions that never come to pass, professions that are never fulfilled, explanations that are only meant to mystify."

If you could see the Germs in your throat-you would realise why your throat gets sore, and why you are liable to catch dangerous germ-diseases.
The above micro-photographs are of an experiment made by Dr. Piorkowski, the bacteriologist. Two glass plates, covered with a substance on which germs thrive, were exposed in a railway carriage. One (the lower plate) was treated with saliva from a person who had sucked four Formamint Tableta. All germs on the lower plate were destroyed, while they grew abundantly on the other. Thus, when you suck Formamint, all disease - germs in your mouth and throat are destroyed. Protect yourself against infection with
