INDIAN ARMY, MAÑOEUVRES: SMALL MOBILE FORCE AGAINST INFANTRY COLUMNS.
A Delhi wire of November 14th says:- The Northern Command' manœuvres be gin on November 26th, and will be pre-I ceded by a three days' aff exercise. They will last five days and some 30,000 men will be engaged.
The general scheme is that a Khaki force moving from the South have at tacked Doaba, an imaginary State lying between the Indus and Rawalpindi. The Doaban forces have received as initial reverse and have lost their capital, Rawalpindi, whereupon the Blue" force, moving from the Peshawar Valley, 'goes somewhat tardily to their assistance.
The actual maneuvres consist of the resulting operations between the Khaki and Blue-forces.
ON FULL WAR FOOTING The Khaki force will be under the com- mand of Major-General Sir Louis Vap ghan and consists of a completo division, plus a cavalry brigade and a company of armoured care. It will be supplied for the first, time in the bistory of the Indian maneuvres by a fully organised maintenance service, consisting of divisione! traiù, a mechadical transport company and a proper system, of pack trains run and organised on a war footing.
ARMOURED CARS AND TANKS. The Blue force will be under the com mand of Major-General R. A. Casscis, of Mesopotamian cavalry fame, and, cop sists of two infantry brigades, an armoured car company, a company of tanks It possesses, therefore, a higher proportion of mobile, troops to counter balance its weakness in infantry.
The mintuvres will be attended by Field Marshal Sir William Birdwod
Bir Olaud Jacob will act at director and Sir Andrew ßkeen as chief umpire. Amongst the official spectators will be Sir Baber Shumehere, Jang Rans Bala dur, G.B.E KC.8.1, of Nepal, and several Persian officers of high rank, who, are coming to India to attend.-.
